Yama's Birth Story
Please refer to Ashwini Nakshatra for the background of the story.
Yama is the son of Sandhya and Sun. Sandhya ran away installing her clone (Chaya) at Sun's home.
Yama was getting a step-son's treatment from the clone mother (Chaya). Yama suspects something is fishy about his mother and keeps a watch on her.
Yama lifts his leg to kick Chaya – however, regrets to it and complains to his father. Yama complains to his father Sun that this is not Sandhya – his mother.
Owing to this, Sun meets Viswakarma.
Yama and Yami Story
Yama and Yami were twins born together. Yama was handsome and Yami started liking him as they grew together.
Yami proposes to Yama to marry her. Yama rejects the proposal and preaches that one has to follow NiYamas in life.
Yami keeps on troubling Yama to accept her love for him. Yama rejects and goes on to die. He is the first mortal to die in this world.
Yami weeps due to this, the Yamuna river is therefore formed.

Symbols and Meanings
Male Elephant
Male Elephant is the largest land animal. Longer tusks than the female.
Elephants are the most intelligent animals on the earth. Male elephants are more aggressive than their female counterparts.
Male elephants leave their herd during puberty (around 13), while female elephants are strongly bonded to their herds.
Herds of elephants are lead by female elephant, not by males.
Elephants are flat-footed.
Elephants have rituals for birth and death. Every year, elephants come back to check the bones of other ancestors. They go round the bones.
Crow
Crow usually represents our relatives in India. A cawing crow – would mean some relatives are coming home soon – this is a general superstition.
Crow would also eat the Pindas (annual sraddha offering to our Pitris). After crow eats the Pinda, our ancestors are pleased – this is a common belief too.
Crow would also mean the evil-eye of Sani – crow hitting over the head of anybody would mean bad luck to the native.
They are considered very intelligent. Example: "Thirsty Crow" – a tale for kids.
They live in groups and help each other – they cry and create ruckus, if one of them dies.
